Wine Advocate rating: 94..."Possessing more depth and richness (as well as a darker color) than the Le Grand Pin, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape la Guigasse boast fabulous Grenache fruit, spice, garrigue and dried-earth-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, ripe and textured, it builds beautifully on the palate with fine tannin, excellent mid-palate depth and terrific length. It will have 10-15 years of longevity.
These terrific Châteauneuf du Papes are the baby of importer Peter Weygandt, with the wines made by Baptiste Grangeon of Domaine du Cristia. They focus on two terroirs, La Guigasse and Le Grand Pin, both of which are comprised of pure sand soils. The winemaking is as traditional as it gets, with no destemming and aging all in older barrel. The les Sablons, like in 2011, was not made in 2012.
